Paulos, chartoularios, 6th-7th centuries. Seal (Lead, 19 mm, 5.30 g, 12 h). The Mother of God 'Hodegetria', nimbate, wearing chiton and maphorion, standing to right, pointing with her right hand towards Infant Christ seated on her left arm, wearing a nimbus cruciger. Rev. Cruciform monogram ΠAVΛOV XAPTOVΛAPIOV. Cf. Zacos/Veglery 2951 for the reverse monogram. An exceptional early depiction of a Hodegetria type in the finest style of the period. Some deposits, otherwise, about extremely fine.
